Ignite your child’s curiosity for adventure in this four-part science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) series.
STEM fields, such as astronomers, architects, and game and app developers, prioritize critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving to gain a deeper understanding of the world while sparking fresh ideas.
This four-part series hopes to attract more students to fields like these by providing engaging and interactive tools to explore and discover. STEM Tales includes a picture book read-aloud from professionals who are experts in their fields, materials to learn about STEM careers, participation in a hands-on STEM activity, and a free take-home kit to continue exploring STEM at home.
Diversity and inclusion are key principles of the project, so all children can visualize themselves in any career.
Registration is required.
Ascension Parish Library is one of 21 public libraries across the U.S. selected to participate in developing STEM Tales with Twin Cities Public Television and the STAR Library Network, through a grant from the National Science Foundation. APL is also among the eight libraries selected to further research by having participants complete pre and post-surveys. Following the development period, the goal is to create a STEM show for children that will be available on national PBS digital platforms.
