Spend a fun-filled day discovering the magic of puppets! Make your own puppet, put on a show, and play with other puppet characters.
Puppets make stories come alive! Join us for Puppet Palooza with local artists, shows, and creative play for kids of all ages.
10:00am-11:00am - Elijah “Frawg” Wilson will present a short puppet show, then share his journey in the arts.
11:30am-12:30pm – Clay Achee will give basic practices of puppeteering and review various types of puppets.
1:00pm-2:00pm- Barton Gilley talks about character creation, special effects, and animatronics.
2:30pm-3:30pm – KidSix Productions will have a live puppet show starring fun-loving characters and music. They’ll also talk about how they make their puppets.
You can also have fun playing with the library’s collection of puppets. Bring your own stories to life on our puppet stage or spend time in the puppet creation room, where you can make a puppet using a craft stick, a paper bag, or create sock puppets.
Water and snacks will be provided while supplies last. Jambalaya Capital Catering will be here from 11:00am to 1:00pm, so you can grab a bite.
About the performers:
Clay Achee is the creator of Ziggy's Arts Adventure. He travels the state providing workshops to the next generation of artists and filmmakers. He says art "… is important because it teaches soft skills, teaches kids how to persist through problems and envision new things, and express themselves. Kids can be themselves and show their creativity…" through artistic development.
Barton Gilley focuses on character design, production, and construction of animatronic sculptures and puppetry. He was offered the opportunity to work on the Netflix prequel reboot of The Dark Crystal. He also worked on Five Nights at Freddie’s. Gilley currently works in the art department of Ziggy’s Arts Adventure, specializing in animatronics.
Sibling duo Amber and Andy Romero make up Kid Six Productions. In 2021, they combined Andy's love of puppetry and puppet building with Amber's love of storytelling, creating a YouTube show called "Tony and Friends.”

Our Gonzales location was built in 1980 under the direction of Earline Decoteau, Director and serves as our Main Library location. It was expanded & renovated in 1996, 1998, and 2011, under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
