Make a no-sew patterned quilt square based on designs by the women of Gee’s Bend, Alabama.
Quilting has been called the fabric of our lives and weaves through many cultures. Generations of African American women in Gee’s Bend, Alabama, elevated quilting to an art form - using old clothes, sheets, and even cornmeal sacks, to design brilliantly colored and patterned quilts to keep their families warm.
Many Gee’s Bend quilts have permanent homes at more than 20 art museums as part of the history of American art.
Sewing skills are not necessary to appreciate this unique art. We will make a no-sew version of the traditional quilting square, patterned after the Gee’s Bend quilters.
Our Dutchtown location was built in 2010 under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
