Hear what influences the work of abstract artist Randell Henry.
The library is delighted to present artwork by Randell Henry, abstract artist and Community Coffee/Frank Hayden Endowed Professor of Art at Southern University and A & M College (Baton Rouge). Henry will discuss how he creates vibrant and cryptic paintings and collages that reflect imagination and intellect drawn from the rhythms and cultures of Africa and the African American experience. Following the talk, view some of his latest paintings on exhibit at our Gonzales location. The exhibit will be available for viewing, during normal business hours, throughout February.
When Henry is not creating his own art, he is teaching art and serves as curator of the Southern University Visual Arts Gallery. Henry’s paintings have been on view in galleries and museums at the Southern University Visual Arts Gallery, West Baton Rouge Museum, Dallas Museum of African American Art, SCOPE in New York City, The Makeshift Museum in Los Angeles, Art Copenhagen in Denmark, The Natural Museum of Ghana, and Liberia.
Our Gonzales location was built in 1980 under the direction of Earline Decoteau, Director and serves as our Main Library location. It was expanded & renovated in 1996, 1998, and 2011, under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
