Listen and learn about legendary outlaws who have shaped Louisiana’s colorful and turbulent history. Registration required.
They are the characters that captivated the public and left behind legends with striking similarities. From the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte and the storied couple of Bonnie and Clyde to less familiar bandits like train robber Eugene Bunch and suspected murderer Leather Britches Smith. You’ll explore historical accounts and current folklore and examine the specific moments and legal climate that spawned Louisiana’s most fascinating fugitives. Keagan LeJeune, professor of Folklore and English at McNeese State University, will discuss the Legendary Louisiana Outlaws and the motives they may have had for breaking the law, as well as why some people seem to celebrate them as heroes despite their history of violent crime.
A book signing will follow the presentation. Click the button to register or call (225) 647-3955.
