Learn about and see live axolotls, the mascot of our Amigos Time. Aprende y observa axolotes en vivo, la mascota de nuestro Tiempo de Amigos
Ever heard of an axolotl? They are called Mexico’s ‘water dragons’ but are not your average amphibians – they are extraordinary, endangered creatures. Learn fun facts about axolotls, their wild counterparts, and the dangers they face. Tanee Janusz, an environmental educator and animal expert with Nature on the Geaux, will introduce you to some axolotl animal ambassadors. Plus, you can find out what it takes to be an axolotl keeper if you want to have one as a pet.
We picked the axolotl as our mascot for Amigos Time to raise awareness about these special amphibians and their importance in Latin America, specifically in Mexico, where they are considered an iconic species and a cultural symbol. Stay after the presentation for fun and games from our bilingual Amigos Time program.
