Make music without even touching an instrument — come play the theremin!
Did you know there’s an instrument you can play without even touching it? Invented in 1920 by Russian scientist Leon Theremin, the theremin makes spooky, spacey sounds just by moving your hands through the air near two antennas! It’s been used in concerts, movies, and even on TV shows like Severance — and it helped inspire the modern synthesizers we hear in music today.
At this fun and fascinating presentation, you’ll learn how the theremin works and hear about its strange and wonderful history. Brandon Eubanks will show you how it’s played and share what it’s like to be a theremin hobbyist. You’ll even get a chance to try it out yourself! Explore the science of sound and make some eerie music of your own!
