Learn English

The library's English Language Learning (ELL) services can help you with reading, writing, and speaking the English language. We provide various levels of English language tutoring throughout the year to help you achieve your goals.

How do I get started?

Contact Carlos Contreras at (225) 647-8924 to schedule an orientation.

During orientation, you will learn more about our program and policies. We will also learn more about you, your goals, and the materials that would best suit your needs. After completing orientation, you will be informed about your class options.

What should I expect during orientation?

Learner Orientation provides the information you need to be successful in our program. This meeting will include an interview and a description of the expectations of our English classes.

We understand each learner is unique and has different academic needs. In order for us to properly evaluate and place you in the appropriate level of instruction, you will be asked to take an assessment during orientation. After the initial assessment, you will be assigned to a class based on your needs and receive instruction that is specific to your level.
