The library's adult literacy services can help you with your reading and writing. We provide the opportunity for you to meet with a volunteer tutor for a minimum of 3-hours each week.
Are you 18 years of age or older?
Do you need help with reading and writing?
Can you commit to a minimum of 3-hours of weekly tutoring for a minimum of six months?
If you answered yes to the above questions, APL Adult Literacy Services can help. Tutoring is confidential, free, and offered on a one-to-one basis.
Contact Carlos Contreras at (225) 647-8924 to schedule an orientation.
During orientation, you will learn more about our program and policies. We will also learn more about you, your goals, and the materials that would best suit your needs. After completing orientation, you will be contacted and paired with a tutor.
Learner Orientation provides the information you need to be successful in our program. This meeting will include an interview and a description of the expectations of the literacy program. We understand each learner is unique and has different academic needs. In order for us to properly evaluate and place you in the appropriate level of instruction, you will be asked to take an assessment during orientation. After the initial assessment, you will be matched with a tutor based on your needs and receive instruction that is specific to you. Learners can meet with their tutors at any one of our four library locations: Donaldsonville, Dutchtown, Galvez, or Gonzales.
