Thank you for your interest in becoming a literacy tutor. Tutoring gives you the opportunity to make a difference in a person’s life and to enrich your own.
A literacy tutor helps an individual learner improve their reading and writing skills to reach a variety of goals: obtaining employment, helping a child with homework, and reading to a grandchild, to name just a few. The tutor and learner meet weekly for a minimum of 2 hours each week. Literacy tutors complete Tutor Training in Basic Literacy. The ALP staff assess all learners entering the tutoring program and make all tutoring assignments.
To volunteer as an adult literacy tutor, register to attend a Basic Literacy training workshop. For additional questions or for more information, check out our resources page.
