Learn about the traditional colors of Black History Month and books from our Jeannette Jefferson Collection.
This take-home craft features the colors associated with Black History Month: red, black, yellow, and green. It also describes why those are the chosen colors and what they represent. The craft also has beads that spell out the word unity and a peace charm. Bracelets are available while supplies last.
Also included are book titles from our Jeannette Jefferson Collection, which is housed at the library in Donaldsonville but can be sent to any Ascension Parish Library location for you to check out. Books in this collection are written by Black authors and illuminate the story of African Americans by emphasizing their history, legacy, and cultural contributions. The collection was made possible by a donation from the Goette Family to honor Ms. Jeannette, an avid reader who was instrumental in getting Black residents in Donaldsonville to vote.
