Discover the fascinating world of honeybee communication, explore the vital role of pollinators in our ecosystems, and experience how bees uniquely connect people, food, and place. Join local filmmaker, artist, and beekeeper Carl Harrison, Jr. for a special screening of his short documentary The Buzz of St. Roch. In this film, a sanctuary for bees in New Orleans is created honoring African American beekeeping traditions while strengthening this local community. This film highlights the deep connection between people and land, showcasing the bond between people and their communities and ecosystems. After the film, there will be a discussion on beekeeping and urban farming. Harrison’s work spans documentary and fiction shorts often exploring themes of race, music, and southern cultural traditions.
