Don’t miss this display of art by Nguyệt, local artist and founder of Fresh Press. As a child, Nguyệt enjoyed playing outside, drawing, and reading. She took four years of art at Dutchtown High School, refining her interest in visual creativity. Nguyệt later dabbled in agriculture, landscape architecture, and teaching catechism.
Fresh Press began as a hobby project in 2020 when Nguyệt’s friend, TN, encouraged her to turn her pressed leaf and flower art into greeting cards. The creative process evokes the meditative and cyclical essence of nature. Flowers and leaves are collected, pressed, and arranged into pictures. Artwork is scanned and goods are printed. Seasons change, always providing inspiration and material.
Con Cò | The Egret is Nguyệt’s very first children’s book, and it is based on a true story. The egret – a bird iconic to Louisiana - reminded Nguyệt’s grandmother of raising babies decades ago, across the world in Việt Nam. What an incredible reminder that we all have so much in common. The illustrations were made with color pencil and pressed flowers from the Nguyễn family home.
Our Dutchtown location was built in 2010 under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
