Learn the technology of making beats and rhymes and the history of Hip Hop. Each day, learn the skills needed to produce tracks – like writing and revising, recording, and editing – from our Artist-in-Residence, Jeffery Boston Weatherford.

Workshop Outline

Unit 1 – The Roots of Rap and the Pillars of Hip Hop

Unit 2 – Rhyme, Wordplay, and Verseperfect

Unit 3 – Beats, Mikes, Mixers, Midi Boards, & Audacity

Unit 4 – Tips on Performance and Recording Your Rap

A performance poet and fine artist, Jeffery Boston Weatherford has lectured, performed, and led art and writing workshops in the US, West Africa, and the Middle East. He illustrated the award-winning book You Can Fly: The Tuskegee Airman, Call Me Miss Hamilton: One Woman's Case for Equality and Respect, and most recently, Kin: Rooted in Hope. He was also a Romare Bearden scholar at Howard University, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree.
