Evans is internationally recognized for her studies on Congo Square, a world-renowned landmark of African and African American culture in New Orleans. Her book, Congo Square: African Roots in New Orleans, was the first comprehensive study of the location, and it received the 2012 Louisiana Humanities Book of the Year Award.
