Celebrate National Aviation History Month with Dr. Kellie Hedgers for a presentation on Louisiana’s premier pilot, Jimmie Wedell.
Born in Texas at the turn of the twentieth century, Jimmie Wedell made a name for himself as a pilot and mechanic with little formal training. He became a barnstorming sensation in the 1920s and brought his reputation to New Orleans in 1927. Wedell spent the rest of his life in Louisiana, building the Wedell-Williams Air Service in Patterson, Louisiana, with wealthy lumberman Harry Williams. Today, Jimmie Wedell’s legacy is preserved by Dr. Kellie Hedgers, curator of the Wedell-Williams Aviation Museum. She will lead the discussion of this lesser-known Louisiana legend.
