Spend an evening with our Artist-in-Residence, Jeffery Boston Weatherford, for an interactive discussion of his life and work in the art world, including illustration, studio art, spoken word poetry, and Hip Hop. Jeffery illustrated the award-winning book You Can Fly: The Tuskegee Airman, Call Me Miss Hamilton: One Woman's Case for Equality and Respect, and most recently, Kin: Rooted in Hope. He was a Romare Bearden scholar at Howard University, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. Jeffery has also performed or exhibited in the US, West Africa, and the Middle East.
In addition to sharing art and poetry, Jeffery will talk about his childhood doodles, digital and fine art techniques, research methods, and Black history. As part of the session, he will lead attendees in a group collaboration to create a unique Hip Hop piece with free internet tools.
This event is designed for middle and high school students, but other ages are welcome to attend. A book signing will follow the presentation.
