Hear about the history unearthed from the excavations at Ashland-Belle Helene Plantation in Ascension Parish.
Artifacts uncovered from the site of the Ashland-Belle Helene Plantation in 1989 provided a better understanding of life on the plantation. The archaeological work was done where the enslaved quarters and sugarhouse were located. Karla Oesch, collections manager with the Office of Cultural Development’s Louisiana Division of Archaeology, will discuss the excavation work done by an archaeological firm.
This program is part of a statewide series in conjunction with the Louisiana Division of Archaeology’s annual celebration of Archaeology Month.
