Learn more about the history of Louisiana’s German Coast. Registration required.
Three hundred years ago, Germanic families enticed by promises of great wealth and fertile farmlands settled along the West Bank of the Mississippi River in the area known as Louisiana’s German Coast. Jay Schexnaydre, president of the German-Acadian Coast Historical and Genealogical Society, will discuss a range of topics on the history of the German Coast of Louisiana, from the origins of the settlers and migration patterns to why “German” people speak French.
Jay is a 10th-generation native of St. James Parish and is the assistant manager at the Laura Plantation in Vacherie.
