See a live demonstration of fencing and learn about its history, techniques, and equipment. Fencing relies on quick decision-making, physical strength and balance, sportsmanship, and self-defense basics. Instructors and students from the Red Stick School of Fencing will show footwork and duels, followed by a Q&A.
Ryan O’Connor, owner and head coach of Red Stick School of Fencing, has been fencing for more than 30 years. Since 2012, the school has trained students ages 8 through 70+ in Olympic and historical fencing classes. Coach O’Connor is also the President of the Baton Rouge Fencing Club and the current Louisiana Division Saber Champion.

Our Gonzales location was built in 1980 under the direction of Earline Decoteau, Director and serves as our Main Library location. It was expanded & renovated in 1996, 1998, and 2011, under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
