Kickstart your creativity in the library’s makerspaces when you learn to use all the new tools. Call the library to schedule your training session today.
Ascension Parish Library’s makerspaces are a place for inventors, artists, and hobbyists to bring their ideas to life. Located at the library in Donaldsonville, we encourage community members to check out this new hands-on workspace and collaborate, create, explore, and build.
To use equipment in the makerspace, you must be an Ascension Parish Library cardholder* and take a training class to learn how to safely operate the machines and the procedures for checking in, out, and cleaning up. After taking the class, you will schedule a time to pass a task-based activity to earn a completion badge, which allows you to use the equipment on your own.
Available makerspace training includes:
· Singer 2263 Sewing Machine - with several needle and stitch options to personalize sewing projects.
· Bambu A1 3D Printer - creates physical objects from digital designs by building layers of material that can make toys, musical instruments, tools, and more.
· Cricut Maker 3 and Heat Press - capable of cutting, scoring, and drawing or writing on various materials. It can be used with the Cricut Heat Press to create customized items.
· Recording Studio - record podcasts or music. The studio has microphones, mixers, a guitar, a bass guitar, a drum set, a keyboard, a green screen, lighting, and two high-quality cameras.
· Glowforge Pro - a laser printer that uses a beam of light to cut, engrave, and shape designs into wood, acrylic, glass, fabric, and more!
Beginning January 2026, makerspace training will be scheduled by appointment. Call (225) 473-8052 to schedule your training session today.
*Cardholders who are ages 12 to 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using the makerspace. Those who are 15 and older may use the spaces on their own.
