Spread a little sunshine this summer and grow a sunflower! Available while supplies last.
Sunflowers blossom from truly global roots. First cultivated in North America around 3000 BC, the flowers found their way to Europe in the 1500s, and by the early 1800s, there were more than two million acres of sunflowers in Russia. Today, there are sunflower festivals everywhere, from Louisiana to Japan! This summer, join the global fun and grow a sunflower. Pick up a special seed at any library location and plant it in your garden. Be sure to chart your flower’s growth and tag us @myAPLibrary on your social media pictures.
Prizes will be awarded in early August to the gardeners with the tallest flower and the flower with the largest surface diameter.
